Welcome Lil’ Lady

So, you can say I’m a proud mommy right now. I’m going to brag for a second so don’t shoot me and don’t hate. (smiles) First of all, my 9-year old daughter was a contest winner, with Poetic Power, and had one of her poems selected for inclusion in their quarterly book.

Yes, yes, she can officially say that she is a PUBLISHED WRITER now!!!!

Now, my eldest daughter, who has been begging me for months to start blogging, has started her own blog. I figure she will be able to really perfect her craft of writing and, with this, she will be able to decide if this is something she would want to do for a career or just as a hobby as she grows and goes through life. Either way, win-win for her and I am so proud of how much she has accomplished in such a short period of time.

So, this post is to let you all know that my baby girl officially published her first blog post today and she is super excited, as am I…if you couldn’t already tell. (smiles again) I can see this being the beginning of something great and we would love, love, LOVE for you all to visit and support her blog as you have supported mine! Imani tends to love music and has always been an excellent writer. So, without further ado, please allow me introduce you all to a budding blogger and my very beautiful and insanely talented daughter, Imani.

Now, go and show her some love!

You can check out her blog at: http://imaniivey.wix.com/manimusic. Looking forward to many more blog posts and big things in the future. Until next time Wordies! Love ya much!

Tour Through Blogland

So, I want to thank my friend Kim for inviting me to be a part of this “Tour Through Blogland”. If this is your first time joining me I hope that something that is said here will inspire, encourage or help you in some way. I will try not to take up too much of your time so let’s dive right in to the questions that have been asked of me.

What are you working on?
Currently, I am working on my first book. It is going to be an autobiography of sorts but with a twist. I will let you all figure out the twist when you buy and read the book. 🙂 I am also learning the tools that I need to take this blog to a whole new level. I envision it becoming so much more than just another blog and I am currently learning what I need to do in order to get this to where I want it to be.

How does your work differ from others in its genre?
I believe that my work differs from others in this genre because each of my experiences are unique and my reactions and views of those experiences are also unique. I don’t believe any blogger is ever truly able to be the same as another one, even if their genre is the same, simply because, as people, we are all unique. This proves even more true when it comes to our writing and other creative work that we each may do.

Why do you write/create what you do?
I write what I do because I love being able to let people into my life. I really am an open book, that is just who I am and who I want to be. My hope, for anything that I write, is always that it will help someone else in some way, no matter how big or small.

How does your writing/creative process work?
Honestly, I work better under pressure so my writing process (or lack thereof) kind of shows that. I brainstorm from time to time but writing is not that “hard” for me. Many times an idea will just pop in my head or I will read/hear something and I will automatically know that I want/have to write about it. So, unfortunately, if you were looking for more of a “how-to”, you may not be able to get that from me since there is no real formality to my writing/creative process. That is also true for when I write poetry or music. I like to look at this as the proof that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing because I don’t really have to “work” at it but I guess we can all look at that in many different ways.

I’ve enjoyed being your guest on this tour today and letting you peak into my writing/creative/thought process a bit but now I must sign off. I hope to see you all around again soon and would love to have you all continue to join me on my blog journey. Hey, what’s one more blog, right?!? 🙂 Be sure to check out my friend and a phenomenal blogger/writer, in her own rite, Jessica E, as she continues our “Tour Through Blogland” next Monday, December 1st.

A New Direction

So, lately I have been feeling like I have just been “going through the motions” with this blog and with my writing. I have enjoyed writing about the things that I have recently written about however, these are not really topics that I am passionate about so I am going to try to get back to what I do best and know well and I am going to talk about that. This would include just blogging about my life, family and giving encouragement, in any way that I can, through my own story.

I will still periodically talk about fashion and money and all those other things that I still love but I will talk about it as the need arises and as I am inspired to do so. I have learned a lot about myself since I have started writing again, full-time, and I realize that I am not really a person of structure. I mean, I love to have a plan and I love to have things organized but when it comes to having to write about a particular topic, every single week, especially a topic that I enjoy but am not passionate about, I notice that I tend to slack off and not do well with those types of writing tasks so I am going to be true to myself and not going to force it anymore.

I am going to just be myself, write about my life and hopefully you all will still read what I have to say and join in the comments and discussion, as you see fit. Thank you all for your patience and for your loyalty. Those are definitely not common traits in this day and age so I truly do appreciate you all for sticking it out and continuing on this journey with me.

You guys are the best!

So, here’s to the future of reNewedChick and to the great things that I am sure will come from this blog now that I am not going to try to be someone that I am not.

And the award goes to…

I was so humbled to hear that I had been nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award. I mean, really, I’m just a little ol’ lady, with a big dream, who loves to write (and blog) in my spare time. I was even more honored, and greatly encouraged, by the words of the phenomenal lady that nominated me.

She is an Airforce vet (so she already has a special place in my heart). Even more, she is probably one of the strongest women I know. Her blog is appropriately named The Crafty Lady in Combat Boots and trust me…you have got to check her out! She is very real and has a little bit of something for everyone.

So, in order to accept the award, you must:

  • Thank the person who nominated you for the award.
  • Add the ‘One Lovely Blog’ logo to your post.
  • Share 7 facts about yourself.
  • Nominate 7 bloggers you admire and inform nominees by commenting on their blog.

7 Facts about Lil’ Ol’ Me:

1. I am extremely detail-oriented. (Like it is scary how many times I double and triple check things, even emails, before sending or saying it is finished.)

2. I speak two languages fluently and would like to learn a third.

3. I am an awesome singer. (Okay, that may be more of an opinion than a fact…should I let you decide?)

4. I have never been to Disney World but I always dream of going someday. (You know, not because I’m a big kid or anything. Just to see what all the hype is about.)

5. I have already cast the person that would play me if and when I ever get the privilege of having a documentary made of my life. (Is that too much?)

6. My primary love language is tied: Quality Time and Acts of Service. (Good to know, right?)

7. If I could have any super power in the world I would choose to have either: the ability to fly or telepathy. (Yeah, I’m still working on that one…)

My 7 nominees are…

Restored Ministries

Sappy As A Tree

Writer’s World (Thoughtful Minds United)

Muliebral Viewpoint

Living The Dream

Oxygen 4 The Journey

Slowly Treading Water

Liebster Award

I was recently nominated for the Liebster Award by the stunning, wonderful and amazingly talented Send Sunshine. After very little research on my own, I learned that this  award is passed to new, and experienced, bloggers with less than 200 followers.

Rules for accepting the Liebster Award:

  • Post the award on your blog
  • Thank the blogger who presented this award and link back to their blog
  • Write 11 random facts about yourself
  • Nominate 11 bloggers that you feel deserve this award and who have less than 200 followers.
  • Answer 11 questions posted by the presenter of the award and ask your nominees 11 questions

I will try not to be long-winded. I talk about myself more than I should, already, in this blog so I definitely will try not to bore you with information that you already have about me. 🙂

MY 11 RANDOM FACTS: (I’ll let you decide which ones are interesting or relevant, lol)

1.  I am harder on myself than I am on anyone else in my life. I tend to offer advice that I should take myself, but instead give out to others, hoping their lives will be better because of it.

2.  I am similar to man’s best friend in the fact that I am extremely loyal.

3.  I got married when I was 18-years old.

4.  I am a Taurus and my personality somewhat matches my zodiac sign. (I’ve taken a number of “personality” and “zodiac sign” quizzes to prove this!)

5.  I love the structure of military lifestyle and spent a large amount of my childhood living in different states due to my father being in the Navy and the Army.

6.  I have always wanted to be a writer and started out by writing poetry, songs and scripts when I was a little girl.

7.  I have never smoked in my life and have never wanted to. (I actually hate the smell of it.)

8.  Even after going through domestic violence and a messy divorce, I haven’t given up on love and desire to be married again – but this time I hope that it would be forever.

9.  I got a tattoo, on a dare, when I was 28-years old. (I never thought I would get a tattoo but I must say it has “grown” on me, lol.)

10.  I would give (and literally have given) the shirt off my back to anyone in need without expecting anything in return.

11.  If you were to spend a day with me, you would not know that I am as shy as I claim to be because I speak to any and everyone.

  •  Do you floss, regularly?

Is this a trick question from my dentist? Okay, you got me. I don’t floss regularly but I do floss everyday and still have some nice chompers, if I must say so myself. 🙂

  •  I love to pay it forward … Do You?  Have You?  Will You?

I definitely love to pay-it-forward and I have and will continue to do everything in my power to bless someone and give of myself to others.

  •  What is the one thing you refuse in your lifetime not to do?

I refuse to NOT live my dream and write at least one book. That is what I feel that I was put on this Earth to do and will do whatever I must to ensure this comes to past.

  •  What is your biggest fear?

I try not to fear anything in life however, if I must say something here, I guess I would say that I fear not living my dreams and not making the impact that I desire to make on this world.

  •  Do you talk to strangers?

I do! I don’t practice “Stranger Danger”… (sorry Grandma!) How can you ever make a new friend if you don’t talk to others?

  •  What is your favorite music genre?

I love Country music…A black chick that loves Country…watch out now! I love a variety of music but Country probably would be my favorite.

  •  Will you smile even when you don’t feel like it?

I will, have and still do smile even when I don’t feel like it. You never know who’s having a bad day so I try to always have smile because it could always be worse.

  •  How will you make an impact in life?

I have a passion for change and for seeing people free from things that may have once hindered them. I have so many things that I want to do and ways that I want to speak into people’s lives, that it would probably take a lifetime to do them all (or at least would take some extra hands and minds to get things done).

  •  What is the worst thing you have done that really wasn’t that bad?

I ate a few of my son’s McDonald’s french fries on my way home so I filled it back up with some of my fries. He never noticed and they were sooooo good. Just saying….

  • Have you every cried in the movie theatre?

Yes, I am a big ol’ cry baby especially when I watch movies that are based on true stories. I have never done the boisterous, ugly cry in the theatre but I have done the cute, silent, real tears falling cry.

  • Do you sing out loud where everyone can hear you?

Yes, I love to sing. The places where I sing the loudest though would have to be my shower, church, and in the car.
